ARLINGTON HEIGHTS PLEIN AIR FESTIVAL

SEPTEMBER 14, 2023 - OCTOBER 13, 2023

The French term “Plein Air” translates to “the open air”, or out-of-doors. Plein Air is all about stepping out of the four walls of a studio and experiencing paintings centered within the landscape. This centuries old practice was made famous by the French Impressionists who used portable easels to draw and paint while surrounded and inspired by their surroundings.

All artists participating in this event had 6 days to produce up to 3 pieces to submit.

“214 Rising” is an exhibition that features up-and-coming fine arts talent from high school District 214. These rising young artists will be displaying their pieces at The Empty Corner from May 15th to June 2nd. Come see a new generation’s artwork and celebrate with us as ideas fill up our space!

KAREN SAKO is an award winning fine artist, graphic designer, and art instructor. Karen enthusiastically tackles life with an optimistic outlook and continually invests her time and talents with the community. Her paintings hang in private collections around the world and she is a member of the North Shore Art League and the National Oil and Acrylic Painter’s Society.

Karen’s exhibit, “Above & Below”, is inspired by her time in nature. Photographing the beauty that surrounds her allows for Karen to look back on her inspiration, which is wonderfully presented in her oil and wax paintings. Focusing on the enigmatic qualities of water and the allure of lily pads, Karen creates gorgeous abstract works that capture these themes.
